Obituary of Taylor Gay

Taylor “Lazarre” Gay passed away at Coney Island Hospital on November 19, 2019 in Brooklyn, NY at the age of 69.

Lazarre is survived by his wife, Marie Eveillard “Ketty” Gay; son, Emmanuel David Gay; grandson Maliq Gay Cezar; and his siblings, Dumas, Gladys, Marie Yolene, Herold, Marie Michelle, and Soeurette Gay. He is preceded in death by his brothers Yves and Lemaire Gay, and his son Frantz Delva Gay.

Lazarre was born on February 7, 1950 in Port Au Prince, Haiti to Athemis Beauvais and Theodore Gay. He attended secondary school at Lycee Antenor Firmin. He followed in his father's footsteps as a jeweler for several years. He emigrated from Haiti to the United States in 1986 where he settled in Brooklyn, NY with his wife “Ketty” Gay.

Lazarre was an accomplished cook and frequently made fantastic meals for his family and friends to enjoy. He showcased this enthusiasm as the co-owner of a Haitian restaurant on Flatbush avenue in Brooklyn. His love for cooking inspired all who knew him. His family and friends will always remember him as having a great joie de vivre, and passion for bringing smiles to other people. He spent most of his career working for a transportation company where he was able to avoid being indoors all day, his least favorite thing to do. He had a great love for God and was a dedicated member of his church. He was a leader of God is Love Ministries, a mission organization committed to helping and bringing souls to Jesus.

His family remembers him as a fun-loving individual who had a great passion for reading and learning.  His nickname, “Lazarre”, was given to him by his mother because of his love for playing games. Behind his humor, was a man of high intellect who believed in education and loved to connect and speak with people.

The family would like to thank all of you for your prayers during his illness, his home health aides and the nursing staff at Coney Island Hospital for their dedication.
