Obituary of Myrlanda Bens

Myrlanda Bens was born on Saturday morning on August 1st, 1981 in Port Au Prince, Haiti to Roland and Myrtha Bens. One of the most important things in her life was her family. No matter where life led her, she remained centered around her family. She loved to laugh with her father, Roland and also enjoyed endless conversations and embracing her mother, Myrtha. She was not only their first child, but the only girl among her siblings Kerensky and Marco. The bond she shared with her brothers was indescribable. Although the eldest child, she often referred to her brothers as her “personal bodyguards”. Growing up in Astoria, Queens, if you saw one Bens –it was likely you saw all three. Myrlanda graduated from Long Island City High School and Dialysis Technician Program, dedicated her life to public service. She had many positions, all centered in around what she loved most --- people. She had a bright and energetic personality and was known for her ability to sense when people needed her help. She was selfless and even if she could not help you herself, would go above and beyond to find the information you needed to get what you had asked for. She was dedicated and loyal as seen in the many friendships she gained over her years that spanned over both time and location. She had a passion for traveling and acquired many long lasting relationships during her time spent in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Paris, Amsterdam and Isreal. Perhaps one of her most memorable trips was to Essen Germany, which was one of the best experiences she had because she was able to fulfill one of her lifelong dreams. Myrlanda was a lover of Our Father, Jesus Christ and often referred to scriptures and testimonies during her hardest times. In November 2012, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor which required surgery. Anyone who knew Myrlanda, can attest that she was a fighter by nature. Despite her condition, she lived by faith and not by sight –knowing that with God’s love and her family behind her she would overcome any obstacles in her path. She endured her many medical problems for the past three years before unexpectedly passing away on Saturday morning on March 21, 2020 at Queens Nassau Rehabilitation Center. Myrlanda leaves to cherish her memory of her parents, Roland and Myrtha and her two brothers Kerensky and Marco. She also leaves aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. The Bens Family would like to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown to them during this time of bereavement. May God Bless and Keep You.
