Obituary of Marie Gladys Gay

Marie “Tati” Gladys Gay went to be with her Lord at the age of 66 on Sunday, November 15, 2020. Tati Gladys is survived by her daughter Carline Montout; her son Christopher Gay; her granddaughters Sadai and Syanne Adams; her siblings Jean Dumas, Marie Yolene, Herold, and Marie Michelle as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family; She is preceded in death by her brothers Yves, Lemaire, and Taylor as well as her sister Soeurette. Gladys was born on January 6, 1954 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to Athemise Beauvais and Theodore Gay. She completed her primary schooling at Ecole Saint Trinité. She began econdary school at the College Saint Pierre, and the college Les Humanité (Franketienne). She went on to earn a degree in fashion at Eleganticima fashion school in 1974. In 1976 she gave birth to her daughter Carline Montout, a month before losing her own mother. As a new mom and the eldest daughter among her siblings, she became the matriarch of the family. In 1984 she moved to NY to join her brother Jean Dumas Gay and sister-in-law Marie Yves Berthaud-Gay. Shortly thereafter, her daughter Carline joined her in Brooklyn, NY. Having a heart for caring for people, she began working as a home attendant while she worked on realizing her dreams. She devoted herself to her family. In 1989, she gave birth to her son Christopher Theodore Gay who she lovingly called “Cookie Boy.” Gladys committed herself to building her savings and supporting her siblings who remained in Haiti. Shortly after, in 1990 she was joined in the U.S. by her sister Marie Michelle Gay. The two of them, along with their brother, combined their efforts to provide a better life for their siblings in Haiti as well as for their growing family living in the U.S. Over these years, the family worked hard but always remained close. Tati Gladys was full of life. She was always ready with a listening ear, a warm hug, and her wonderful sense of humor. While she was generous with her spirit, she was also generous with her time and resources. There are many people she has helped along the way. Her kindness was extended to her friendships and gave her an amazing ability to forgive. Tati exemplified unconditional love. As she passionately pursued her career in nursing, she attended Medgar Evers and continuously pushed herself to grow in her career. Her advancement from home attendant, to care agent, to registered nurse illustrates her hardworking spirit. In addition to her nursing career, she had a passion for travel, cooking, and hosting parties. It gave her no greater joy than to feed her family and friends with her delicious cooking. Her true passion was family. Everything she did was for her children, grandchildren, and extended family. Everyone who knows Gladys, knows her sense of fashion was unmatched. Every day was an opportunity for her to walk the runway. You could never be overdressed in her view. Her fashion sense grew from her love of sewing clothes for herself and her loved ones. She also loved to crochet and would often gift her family and friends with her handmade creations. In 2016, she made a transformative decision and dedicated her life to the Lord. From that moment, she became an active member of Eglise du Christ in Brooklyn taking a role in the women’s ministry and supporting many church initiatives. She leaves behind a loving church family in addition to her many family members and friends. A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Frantz Daniel Jean Funeral Home with an interment to follow at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens in Woodbridge, NJ.
