Obituary of Raymonde Amedee

Eulogy Raymonde Amedee (nee Raymonde Antoine) was the first of fifty-nine of her father’s children. She was born to Andrea Jacques and Louis Antoine, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on February 10,1948. As the eldest child, Raymonde loved being a great help to her parents, deeply involving herself in helping to raise her siblings. She was affectionately called Mondy and Choublak (otherwise known as the Hibiscus flower; The Official National Flower of Haiti) due to her sweet smile and magical laughter. Mondy or Mommy Raymonde, as her children called her, had an aptitude in taking the lead and a tendency to motivate all around her to excel and pursue excellence. She left her beloved Haiti over 50 years ago and moved to Canada, then to New York with her brother Guille to help provide a better life and to provide for her family back home. She was a proud, educated, regal, Haitian woman who birthed two equally wonderful daughters, Randy Pierre and Tharah Amedee- Ferdinand. While Mommy Raymonde only birthed two daughters, Steven Jacques was the son of her heart. She had a profound influence in the determination and grit that all three of her children share. A strong will and drive that moves mountains yet still a force to be reckoned with. Just like the Choublak (Hibiscus) she was not just a pretty flower, she had a unique sharp sweetness, that could feed the body, the soul, and heal the heart. Mommy Raymonde was a gift from the Creator that was deeply appreciated and can never go unrecognized. Professionally Mommy Raymonde was a Registered Respiratory Therapist. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Long Island University with a Bachelor’s Degree. This afforded her the opportunity of working in many prestigious hospitals in New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts over the years. She was deeply passionate and a deeply devoted local, international, political and humanitarian activist, especially concerning her native Haiti. Even when Haiti wasn’t under Mommy Raymonde’s feet, Haiti always remained in her heart. She loved to laugh, sing and dance. Mommy Raymonde did not die but she lived; she truly lived her life fully. The Creator made her to love and that love will spring eternally in our hearts and minds. Raymonde Antoine Amedee is survived by her daughters, Randy Pierre, Tharah Amedee-Ferdinand, her son Steven Jacques • her siblings: Edgel Antoine, Rodolph Antoine, Hall Antoine, Louis Fils Antoine, Patrick Antoine, Guilenger Antoine, Louis Antoine Antoine, Marie Estavelie Antoine, Marie Irmla Antoine, Marie Flore Antoine, Marie Elizanda Antoine, Linda Antoine, Maggie Antoine Marie Carole Antoine, Jonide Antoine, Olga Antoine, Barbara Antoine and Marie Chirome Antoine, Marie Charome Antoine, Marie Nicomete Antoine, Woileskie Antoine • her many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless family & friends.
